may i ask what browser are you using? i've tested it on most major browsers already and works fine (some maybe slower like IE due to its crappy ability to process standard javascript). and there is flood control, i think like only 50 max per hour per person or something, good for server.
it is supposed to be refreshing in real time (because it is supposed to be a chat room module), but sometimes it can be other problem (like server side problem or something) that makes it delay.
e.g. when i was setting up things in front and runs a lot of scripts and lots of reloading and fetch data very frequently from database, it is significantly slower. After all the setups I've turned on caching, so there should be less scripts running, so it should be fine now.
it can also be connection problem, sometimes when my connection to SG goes slow due to maybe ISP issue, it would of course appears slower, just like when you're playing WOW (ping suddenly goes up, signal to and from both slowed down, and you will notice a double slower speed), images would not appear slow just because it is cached in your computer.
