Patch 3.2 various problems and fix
« on: August 12, 2009, 11:22:15 AM »
problem: capped fps like mine at 17.5 fps whether in battle or facing wall

solution:
--use repair.exe or delete interface wdb cache, both works

problem:  logs in char then freezes and then crashes (only affects some characters instead of entire account)

temp solution from gm:
--Thank you for the information. This is pretty much what we are telling people to do now. The more attention the threads get the more likely poeple are to see the threads and follow the directions.

Here are the directions I have been giving now

1. Log into the game and allow the character/screen to freeze
2. Continue to allow the screen to remain locked up until you receive a “Disconnected from server” message (can be up to 5-10 minutes).
3. Try logging into the same character again.

or delete yadda yadda interface wdb

another discussion thread with a lengthier fix and sidetracks a little: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=19110155804&sid=1

problem: crashing when using FP (vista only)

solution:
--That tells me you have Vista and haven't installed Service Pack 1 yet. This is a common issue for your situation, and at this point you need to go ahead and install the service pack to resolve this issue.

problem: wow or internet disconnections

thread discussion: also talked bout updating firmware for router or modem whatever the f they are discussing

disconnection issues (non isp)
Are you frequently getting disconnected from the game?

If you are having trouble staying connected to the World of Warcraft/Burning Crusade realms, the steps below may help determine the cause. You may have already tried some of these steps, but please confirm you have tried them all since they will usually address common connection-related issues.

NOTE: If somebody has your account name/password and attempts to log in; you will be disconnected. If you suspect that somebody has your account name/password; please contact our Billing and Account Services Department. Billing representatives are on hand to take your call Monday through Friday between 8am and 8pm Pacific Time, at 1-800-592-5499. Customers in Australia should call 1-800-041-378.

Step 1. Removing the games temporary files
With the game closed please try moving your WTF, CACHE, and INTERFACE folders out of your World of Warcraft folder to the desktop. These are temporary cache folders that will be recreated by the game the next time you start the game and log into a character. When starting the game make sure you are using the shortcut for the game launcher and not one provided by a UI mod. This test is to make sure that there are no corrupt cached files from a previous game version, or from a custom UI modification. Some UI mods can increase the connection bandwidth required and can cause connection issues.

Step 2. Configure your Firewall and/or Router
Firewalls (along with other security software) and Routers are designed specifically to control your computer's incoming and outgoing connections. You may need to set up these security features to allow access to the game servers. If these are not set up correctly, the firewall or router may prevent you from connecting to the game. Please see this page for port information and advice on setting up your security software and hardware for the game. As a test, if you have a router you can also try bypassing this temporarily and plugging your system directly into the modem. This will let you know if your router is causing connection problems and need to be configured.

Step 3. Third party program conflicts.
Some third party programs can interfere with your connection. Programs such as Xfire, Teamspeak, and Port Magic have been reported as causing some connection issues. Please try closing all background applications as explained on our support site

Step 4. Network card issues.
There are several drivers that, if out-of-date, could cause issues for broadband users. If you need more help in locating drivers for your hardware or finding the settings listed, please contact the hardware manufacturer or a qualified technician.
- If you access the internet through an external broadband modem, be sure you have the latest firmware and drivers available for your modem.
- If your computer connects to the modem via USB, be sure you have the latest drivers for your motherboard or your USB PCI card.
- If your computer connects to the modem via Ethernet, be sure that your network card has the latest drivers installed.
- Some network cards also have settings that when changed have corrected these types of issues. First, you need to navigate to your network card properties.

- Click on Start.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double click on the System icon (in Windows XP, you may need to click Switch to Classic View on the left hand side of the screen).
- Select the Hardware tab.
- Click on Device Manager.
- Expand the section labeled Network Adapters.
- Right click on your network card and select Properties.
- Click on the Advanced tab and you will see a list of items. Please try disabling the Checksum Offload option. This may also be listed as Hardware Checksum or RX Checksum.
- You may also have a Speed/Duplex option on the Advanced tab, this may also be listed as Media Type/Connection Type. If you do, please try changing this to Force Base 100 Full Duplex. If you have an older router you may need to use base 10 Full Duplex.
- If you have a Power Management tab in your network card properties, click it and unselect the "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" if selected.

Step 5. Testing your Connection and Performing a Trace Route
Running a Trace Route will track each step of your internet connection to the game, and can help identify if and where connection problems may be occurring. Please see this page for instructions on doing a Trace Route test

ati cards

Shadows are flickering on ATI video cards.

Try turning Shadow Instancing off by typing this command in the in-game chat window:

/console shadowinstancing 0

Restart the game after hitting enter.
